NK qualifies 9 for district tennis

North Kitsap girls tennis dominated the Olympic League Championships May 10-11, qualifying three singles and three doubles teams.

The top five for each division qualified for the West Central District 3 Championships.

Top-seed Teegan DeVries won the singles tournament without losing a game in four matches. She defeated Knight Kali Liu, Viking Noelle Oberholtzer, North Mason’s Emma Hunt and Sequim’s Callie Thompson.

Oberholtzer finished fourth in the league after losing to Hunt 4-6, 1-6 in the third-place match. Oberholtzer defeated Kingston’s Christina Prescott, Viking Senna Pearson and Sequim’s Tiffany Lam.

Lastly, Val Torres defeated Lam for fifth place in the league. Torres also defeated Bremerton’s Helene Rode, Sequim’s Sydney Thomas Harris and Olympic’s Tya Shride.

On the doubles side, North Kitsap finished first, second and third.

Beckham Ochs and Sophia Loverich won the doubles title, sweeping every opponent but second-place Iliana Brockett and Tiffany Le.

Ochs and Loverich won the title match 6-4, 5-7, 7-6. In addition, Ochs and Loveirch defeated Bremerton, Sequim and North Mason’s double teams.

Brockett and Le defeated two Sequim squads and third-place Avery Kline and Ellie Stanford. Kline and Stanford battled back in the consolations and defeated North Mason’s team 6-2, 6-3.
